In late 2015, state air monitors linked high levels of arsenic, cadmium and chromium in inner southeast Portland and north Portland to two glassmaking facilities located in each neighborhood.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and the Oregon Health Authority have been sharing information about industrial toxic metal emissions and what is being done in response to specific air quality issues.

Data and information about local air quality findings from metals emissions near glass companies that used to be posted at the Safer Air Oregon website are now included here at Cleaner Air Oregon. To learn about other air quality projects, visit DEQ’s Northwest Region website.
